• Miss Marilyn

    Owner/Artistic Director

    Marilyn, began her training at the age of 4 ½, at private dance schools in Edmonton. At the age of 20 she attended the Foley's Academy in Toronto for a year of concentrated training. Marilyn has studied and taught dance for 30 plus years. Over the years she has worked hard to keep current and expand her teaching and choreography skills through countless workshops, conferences and teachers' meetings throughout the Province, across Canada in Toronto, Vancouver, Los Angeles, and Hawaii. Marilyn has taught at various schools in Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan and Sherwood Park before forming Riverbend Dance Academy in 1994. Marilyn was an active member of the ADAPT for many years, and is committed to the ADAPT Syllabus. Has received her Elementary RAD Ballet, along with numerous Advanced level examinations both with Al Gilbert and ADAPT Syllabus. Marilyn's natural ease with children makes her a sought after adjudicator and teacher. She has been a guest instructor, choreographer, and adjudicator. Marilyn's students have entered into competitions and exams, many of whom have received high standings and scholarships in competitions and festivals. She is a recognized instructor for ADAPT - an acronym for Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers.

  • Miss Hannah

    Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Lyrical, Hip-Hop

    Hannah began dancing at the age of 4 and has trained in ballet, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, tap, musical theatre, contemporary, and modern. She has been teaching at several studios in the greater Edmonton area for the past 6 years. In university she began performing with Orchesis, a program designed to give all adults, from beginner to professional, an opportunity to dance. She has held a seat on their Board of Directors for the past 2 years. This year Hannah graduated from the University of Alberta with her Bachelor of Arts, majoring in psychology and with a focus on dance-related research; she also studied Anne Green Gilbert’s innovative Brain-Compatible dance education program. Hannah is a certified Burlesque BOOM instructor, and also teaches dance fitness classes for women with the goal of encouraging healthy living and body positivity.

    Hannah has competed and attended workshops across Alberta. She still takes regular classes herself, and spent a summer training in Toronto in 2016. This summer she will be training in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with an invitation from TOKYO the Academy. Hannah is certified in the Edmonton School of Ballet Junior Grades and Classical Ballet Progressions of Canada.

    Hannah is also heavily involved in the theatre and visual art communities in her free time, and throughout her dance career has received several awards for her contributions to the arts.


  • Miss Tegan

    Intellidance Certified, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical/Contemporary, Hip-Hop & Musical Theatre

    Tegan has been passionate about movement and dance from a very young age. She has trained and studied in various disciplines of Ballet, Irish dance, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, and Modern dance. With a focus and passion for ballet, Tegan has received training in RAD, ISTD, and Vaganova methods and examinations. In addition to dance, Tegan grew up in musical theatre, taking workshops and classes from schools such as the Citadel Foote Theatre and Grant Macewan University, and performing in shows from the ages of 8 – 18. She spent many years studying voice, violin, and bass guitar, and played in multiple bands allowing for many exciting performance opportunities in and around the city of Edmonton.

    Tegan has attended courses and workshops in child and adolescent development and learning, lesson planning, choreography and contemporary dance, dance for preschool years, and the Intellidance Method. Tegan has completed coursework with the NDEO in dance pedagogy, elements in dance, and ballet theory and composition. She has also studied in IDTS dance teaching method, and Progressing Ballet Technique, both of which have contributed to Tegan’s passion in teaching towards a solid understanding of dance anatomy, conditioning for dance, and safe development of technique. Tegan believes in regular professional development and as such has attended teaching courses with Winnipeg Royal Ballet, Cecchetti Society of Canada, and Vaganova society, and workshops Creative Movement and composition to name few. In addition to teaching dance, Tegan has had the opportunity to work as a teacher’s assistant in a specialized learning program with Edmonton Public School and has her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Psychology.


  • Adriana

    Pre-School/Kinder, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Contemporary

    Adriana began dancing at the age of 3, studying primarily Tap, Ukrainian, Contemporary, Jazz, Musical theatre, and Lyrical. Adriana discovered her passion for choreography as a member of Strathcona Dance Company and the Edmonton Youth Jazz Ensemble, “Little Birds”. Combining her love for music and dance, Adriana has danced and improvised with live jazz ensembles, was the choreographer for Edmonton public school’s musical,”Thoroughly Modern Mille”, and has had her work showcased in the 2018 Fringe Festival show, “Xanadu”. Adriana has a passion for Tap and has worked closely with Edmonton Public Schools to create opportunities for students to learn and try Tap and Ukrainian. This is Adriana’s 4th year instructing dance and is Adriana’s second year with Riverbend Dance Academy.


  • Miss Kyla

    Acro, Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Musical Theatre

    Miss Kyla started to dance at the young age of three in her home town of Stettler and has loved every moment since. Learning the art form soon became her life as she started taking formal training in Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Hip hop, Contemporary/modern, Lyrical, Tap, and Musical Theatre.  This sparked an interest in sharing her passion with other and resulted into her first student teaching positions, and later into having her own classes.  She has trained under the watchful eye of Rhonda Gillrie, along with workshops taught by the likes of Brandon Bryant, Matt Marr, the professional staff at the Edmonton School of Ballet, Tokyo and others. Currently she is working on her Acrobatique Intermediate certification and is excited to keep learning. She has Previously taught at Danceology in Stettler Ab, The Alix Dance Club in Alix Ab, Dawn's School of Dance in Carstairs Ab, and Caroline Dance West in Caroline Ab.

    Miss Kyla loves teaching and working with dancers of all ages.  She aspires to encourage every student to be the best dancer he or she can possibly be, and strives to help every student reach that level while also keeping their love for the art alive.
